Who’s Zoomin’ Who?

09-08-2022

Last week I put together what I thought was an epic keynote address for the PARO Center for Women’s Enterprise’s first ever virtual conference. The stage was set, CEO Rosalind Lockyer’s presentation was magnificent, I started strong, shared my screen, and then Zoom crashed.

I still don’t know what happened except that change It happens. Just when you think you’re solid, quicksand takes you out and you need to be adaptable. I went back to cover, went back in and gave the keynote speech without my slides. Technology… sigh…

As a tribute to Zoom, and to all the readers who are on their way to mastering it (some at the beginning of that stage and others like me who are still learning), I have a list of Zoom shortcuts to help you approach the software like a pro. (okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration…there’s a lot to learn).

The 5 most used commands in Zoom (according to me)

I really value Zoom and we need it to stay socially connected, while physically distancing. A few months ago, I taught my 81-year-old mom how to use Zoom for a family gathering. Last week, I attended a memorial service led by a pastor the same age as my mother, on Zoom. My American boyfriend and I have found so many creative things to do on Zoom… (not what you’re thinking)… movie nights, cooking new recipes, reading romantic stories, and meeting up at the bar for a drink. Not always in that order… LOL

As Aretha Franklin sings, Who’s Zoomin’ Who? I encourage you to send out those Zoom invites to meet up face-to-face for great conversation, productive meetings, friendship get-togethers, and even romantic nights out.

Speaking of Rosalind from PARO, she asked if I could offer a short webinar to help people learn about Zoom. I’ve learned never to say no to Roz. She has earned a lot of respect from women across the country and beyond. Even though I’m just a Zoom newbie, I’m going to share everything I’ve mastered over the years. It’s Wednesday, December 9 at 12:15, it’s free and you’re invited. Register by sending an email to: [email protected]

*Bonus… Trent Theroux offers a brilliant, short and humorous weekly podcast designed to build resilience in corporate leadership, which is attracting thousands of listeners. Here’s a relevant episode, the story of the founder of Zoom… the video conferencing service, may have seemed to burst onto the scene overnight, but was actually over 20 years in the making.
