What is a 1200 calorie diet?

The fact is, a 1,200 calorie diet can deliver effective weight loss results if done correctly, which means making those 1,200 calories count, and not just aiming for the figure and ignoring everything else. Those 1200 calories could easily be consumed in a single meal, and just eating once a day will actually be very detrimental to your overall health and weight loss goals because it will drastically slow down your body’s metabolism and thus slow down the rate you your body would otherwise be burning energy.

1200 calories is not even the correct number for everyone. Actually, it is the figure that has been determined as the minimum nutritional requirements for healthy women who do not have active lifestyles. For men it’s actually 1800 calories, but none of this is mentioned because the 1200 calorie diet wouldn’t seem so simple and manageable if you had to explain small important details like that.

However, the biggest problem is the way that the 1200 calories is simply a general figure and no guideline is given about the nutritional needs of the human body. 1,200 calories could mean 3 balanced and nutritious meals of fruits, vegetables and meats throughout the day or a bucket of fried chicken at the nearest self-service. Actually, one will HELP you burn calories, while the other will result in severe malnutrition due to lack of vitamins if that type of diet is maintained for an extended period of time.

Just because a diet restricts your caloric intake does not mean that you can begin to restrict your intake of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and essential fatty acids are still essential for your body no matter what diet you go on.

To go on a 1,200 calorie diet in a positive, healthy, and ultimately more beneficial way, you first need to understand that 1,200 calories may simply not be enough for your body. You may think at first that not having enough calories is the main point, but when you really don’t eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode and blocks the fat molecules you still have, eventually grinding down your metabolism. almost paralyzed and far more counterproductive to your goals as a result.

Once you realize that perhaps 1500-1800 may actually be more effective for your body, you need to make sure those few calories are spent wisely every day.

Getting enough vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids and fatty acids is more important now, as the foods you will have to eat now have to be more nutrient dense and less energy dense. Wasted calories are real nutrient-dense, high-energy food sources. So most of the greasy fried foods or foods rich in sugary carbohydrates suddenly disappear from the menu.
