Toy Clock Review

10-01-2023

There are new fads in the fashion world all the time and the latest to hit the UK scene is the watch brand Toy Watch and their particular product Toy Watch Fluo.

Essentially, they are a fairly inexpensive version of a Rolex with a hint of Swatch as well. They have the fashion credentials of being Italian design and from designers with a passion for glitzy watches.

Toy Watch uses the impressive Miyota quartz movement (mechanical and wind in the kinetic energy of its movement) and has been described by Toy Watch dealers as “indispensable” and “pioneering”. They are built with a variety of materials from the classic that is steel to the resistant and light Plastermic, as with the Toy Watch Fluo.

They have also been causing quite a stir on the celebrity scene with several high profile celebrities having been seen wearing them including Madonna, Al Gore(!) Lily Allen, Heidi Montag (to name a few) and most notably Oprah Winfrey who in her annual Favorite Things Christmas show highlighted the Toy Watch models as hits with her. In fact, it wasn’t the popular Toy Watch Fluo that caught her eye, but the Crystal and Colored Crystal models.

Of the Toy Watch, he said, “I loved mine so much that I wore it almost every day on my big road trip with Gayle.”

It’s no surprise that this comment and promotion of Toy Watch has driven us “ordinary people” crazy, as we respect the opinions of mega-celebrities and don’t want to be seen as a sheep that doesn’t follow the herd. !

Perhaps I am viewing this with cynicism? They are good watches and I admit they look good too!

I think part of my problem is the influence of celebrities in the rest of the western world, which I never thought was proactive on their part. The other part of the problem is the statement they make regarding money and status, which is best summed up when looking at their rank, which is aptly called “Money Collection”.

Better than Toy Watch Fluo, this collection associates the image of its new Money Collection with a universal symbol: the dollar. Obviously synonymous with u, power, and the supposed ultimate goal in man’s pursuit of happiness, and it is this iconography that I have a problem with.

However, there is another side to Toy Watch and they cannot be blamed for the running of our society. They have created a Limited Edition watch for charity; Keep A Child Alive (KCA), which has the words ‘Time To Love’ on the back and approximately 50% of the proceeds from each sale will go to KCA; you can’t argue with that.

Yet despite all the hype, are they all that?

Well, probably not in the world peace scheme; but if you want a cheaper alternative to what would normally be a very expensive collection of gears and springs; are fashion conscious and would occasionally like to know what time it is, then the Toy Watch and especially the Toy Watch Fluo are probably the ones for you.
