This is a loopback test method.
This method will send and receive data on the same port called ‘LOOP BACK TEST’.
Why should we do this method?
When the interface hardware device has a problem or the hardware does not work properly. This method is an easy way to fix it yourself.
Hardware requirements (nothing)
Software requirements (HyperTerminal)
Skill Requirement (Nothing)
Accessories (bunch, paper clip, or anything that can connect the DB9 pin)
– Step One – Prepare
Find something that connects (shorts) your target communication port (DB9 pin) to someone calling the serial port Pin 2-3.
Shut down your computer. Wear it short Pin 2-3 (Pin 2-3 only – Be careful with the other short Pin).
Use a bunch or a paper clip)
– Step Two – Prepare
Start the computer and run the Hyper Terminal software
Note: Start Menu > Program > Accessories > Communication > HyperTerminal
– Step Three – Configuration
Hyperterminal connection configuration
Enter the name of the connection (you can use “test my com port)
Select the destination port to test (com1,com2,com…n)
Properties connection and then click “Restore to defaults“
– Step Four – Test
Perform a loopback test Press any key… on the keyboard
If you see any characters on the Hyper Terminal screen, the behavior was normal.
