Although many travelers to Kenya try to avoid the capital and largest city of Nairobi, there are plenty of fun activities and attractions. Taking the time to do a bit of sightseeing and get a feel for Nairobi will be a rewarding and beneficial experience.

Nairobi National Park
The city of Nairobi, Kenya is home to a national park teeming with African wildlife. The boundaries of the park itself recede to the side of the city, presenting a fabulous opportunity to see lions and rhinos in their natural habitat just minutes from downtown Nairobi.

One of Nairobi’s unique attractions is the opportunity to ride an ostrich at the Maasai Ostrich Farm. The farm also includes a wonderful restaurant serving a fabulous burger and ostrich steak!

National Museum
The National Museum ranks as one of Nairobi’s top attractions. On display is a significant number of interesting and valuable cultural items and ancient items from all over Kenya.

National Archives of Kenya
A great place to start looking for traditional African antiques and relics is the National Archives of Kenya. This colonial building in central Nairobi houses a large collection of weapons, pottery, paintings, and jewelry from all over Africa.

The Nairobi Snake Park presents a great opportunity to observe the deadliest of all snakes and reptiles from a safe position. Well done exhibits are full of beautiful and dangerous snakes!

Gikomba Market
Usually not included in most lists of Nairobi attractions, Gikomba is one of the largest markets in Nairobi. The market is characterized by huge bushels of clothing, piles of shirts and all sorts of goods in massive quantities pouring out of the stalls and onto the muddy paths.

City Park Street Vendor Market
City Park Hawkers is one of the largest fresh produce markets in the city of Nairobi. There is always a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, colorfully displayed on the market stalls.

Experience Nairobi nightlife
Nairobi’s vibrant nightlife is as diverse as the people who come to the parties. From techno dance clubs to traditional bars with local tunes, there’s always entertainment on Nairobi’s night scene.

Eating Nyama Choma
No visit to Nairobi would be the same without a few meals of barbecued meat, known as nyama choma. Goat meat is preferred, grilled and served with a natural flavor. Eating roast goat is a must-see attraction in Nairobi.
