Shopping Product ReviewsThe 2011 Mr. Bangalore competition was held in Kamalanagar, Bangalore on September 25, 2011.
This is an annual district level bodybuilding competition. There are four categories to compete for Mr Bangalore Yuva, Yuva shri, Udaya, Kumara and Kesari which translates to under 20s, over 21 undergraduates, beginners and around 40 respectively. Screenings regarding age, height and weight were done earlier in the day to ensure you are placed in the correct division.
There was a bit of anxiety lurking around the corner among the rookies. Among this year’s contestants was Dhiraj Ramakrishna. Dhiraj qualified for the rookie category on behalf of his Eminent Multi Gym, Rajajinagar.
For Dhiraj, the day started with 2 large bananas early in the morning and an intense session of weight training and cardio for about an hour or two. This was the time that he had been training for the past 5 years. As the day progressed, the tension and exhaustion was reflected in the faces of the contestants. The day was hot, but with fellow competitors from my gym rooting for each other, it felt like a brother going out to win a battle.
Other rookies included Chandrakanth. Weight training starts with a good protein, low fat diet and intense training programs with many variations, from single body part workouts to 3 body part workouts in one day, along with forearm and core exercises that were required every day. But nothing beats the stress and exhaustion of a competition. Agony and tension were written all over Chandrakanth’s face.
The power, the will, the strength and the energy to go further is determined by the mind. Pain is reduced to a meaningless word. Finally the moment Dhiraj and Chandrakanth have been waiting for. As the numbers are handed to them, they perform their final set of routines. 150 push-ups and 100 squats and they’re good to go.
With great anticipation after the grind, it’s time to announce the winners of this year’s Mr. Bangalore 2011. As the names are called, there is a sense of relief and calm among the participants. The names of Dhiraj and Chandrakanth are mentioned among the novices. The joy is evident in the faces of the winners. For most, this has been 5-6 years in the making.
