Interview with Neopets player Kat
SportsThis week we interviewed Kat, a longtime Neopets player who has been on the site almost since it started and has seen all the major changes and how it has affected Neo-communities.
How long have you been playing Neopets?
My first account was lost in the mists of time, I started playing when I was about 14, then started again in earnest almost 4 years ago.
How long did it take you to become a neo-millionaire?
About half a month.
What methods do you think helped you the most to reach your goal of one million NP?
Playing games where I knew I could get 1000 NP per play with no effort at all, shooting with the SSW and doing the free dailies.
Would you be able to suggest and of those games to players who are just starting out?
Sure:
Ultimate Bouncy – It may take a few tries to get the idea, but you can get 1000 NP for less than 1 minute of play.
Same with Petpet’s cannonball.
Fashion Rush: 900 NP for next to nothing
Whack a cass is very easy if you do it right.
KQ, you always get something, and the NP-on-time ratio is very good
As for the dailies, there are many lists available, just search the web

I love it -KQ
I hate how fast pound charts go
What motivates you to keep playing after so long?
My goal to win and have a Draik and have all the pets of my dreams.
What other pets are you looking for?
Desert Uni, Darigan Eyrie, Halloween Hissi, Plushie Hissi and a couple of Royals.
What do you think have been the biggest changes to Neopets since you started playing?
The advent of Neocash, paying money to play. The whole customization thing, it’s really changed the whole value of pets, as the ones that haven’t been converted are rare and coveted. The kennel changes are nice though, you can adopt any of the three pets on screen instead of having to search for them after seeing them.
Do you think the introduction of things like Neocash and more ads was a good move for Neopets when it changed management?
I think it generated a lot more revenue and would compete with more of the paid market for online communities, but I think it could drive out poorer people. I personally don’t actually use Neocash, but I can see why people would like to.
If you could change one thing about Neopets, what would it be?
It would halve the price of Draiks, and seriously make it a freezable offense to drop KQ when you’re losing.
How often do you play KQ and are you good?
I play as often as I can, with lots of different people. It’s a few times a day, and I think I’m good for my computer speed, people with very fast connections beat me :/ But I think I’m pretty good
Do you think KQ gives those with faster computers an unfair advantage when it comes to earning NP?
I think it could, but there are a lot of people who just play for the NPs or play with their friends. A faster computer is an advantage in minigames, for sure.
What do you think was your biggest mistake in trying to become a neo-millionaire?
Thinking it would happen overnight. You have to be patient and determined.
and don’t feel guilty when you make a massive shot.
If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice when starting Neopets, what would it be?
Start saving right now! Set goals and stick to them. And for God’s sake, create well-named pets! It might sound cool to have a pet named Zeus_the_almighty_pwnful_god, but if you ever want to change it, you’ll be stuck!
Ha! That’s a great name. Do you play other games besides Neopets?
I play Bejeweled a lot… I’m a bit addicted!
Do you think you will still be playing Neopets in 5 years?
I think so, I may be older, but I’ll still be young at heart.
