All about the Tower of Othello

Yes, this Tower of the Citadel or Tower of Othello is the medieval fortress or Citadel that perfectly guards the city-town or the port. The tower is remarkable in its structure. The entrance to it is pierced through the Venetian fortifications. There is a marble slab that is just above the entrance and it is beautifully carved (the insignia of Venice, a winged lion is there). The palace is not in its original structure as it was ruined by an earthquake. What visitors can see today are remains of the palace that even seemed to reflect the massiveness of the structure.

St. George’s Church

When you are in the old walled city of Famagusta, do not forget to visit this church. San Barnabas Monastery

This monastery, famous for its beautiful location, is located on the opposite side of the Famagusta-Salamis route and closer to the Royal Tombs. It was reportedly built to commemorate the most important saint which is Christ Baranabas. This monastery is reported to have been built in the 5th century. The structure clearly defines the art of medieval art and architecture. Visitors can also find on one of the walls the story of Baranabas (There is a story that tells what the archbishop has seen in his dream, how the body of Baranabas was shown to him, etc.).
