Even healthy relationships go through times of negativity, boredom, and adjustment. We are human and we like our routines, but sometimes our routines can become routine. Morning and evening rituals feel stale; family conversation at mealtime is boring; sex feels more like an obligation.

When boredom sets in, you may be tempted to ignore those feelings and hope they go away because you don’t want to risk shaking things up in an otherwise good relationship.

But there is a danger of being silent. We need stimulation; And if our current life is not stimulating, we will look elsewhere for excitement, potentially damaging our love relationships.

Here are 5 simple ways you can keep your love alive and fresh when you’re feeling bored and wanting more from your relationship.

1. Identify new activities to do together

Sit down with your partner and make a list of new things you can do together that are different from your current routines. (Instead of watching TV every night, maybe you could play cards or go for a bike ride or walk. Maybe you could cook dinner together or read a book. Maybe you can start dancing, join a league. bowling, painting lessons together, going golfing or hiking).

2. Hang out together

Plan a getaway to a new and different place, just the two of you, where you can experience a new environment together. Each of you could be involved in planning a vacation or a hiking trip or a weekend visit to downtown museums.

3. Schedule dates and times with each other

Schedule a set time each week for coffee or breakfast together or meeting for a drink after work to discuss what has been going on in your lives or to make plans you need to make for the next week.

4. Talk about your sex life

Is your sex life working well for you? Too … too little … too routine? What do you need to change?

5. Tell your partner why you love her

Remind your partner why you fell in love in the first place. Share the qualities you appreciate most in him or her. Mention specific details to make it real and credible. He touches the base at noon sometimes, just to say “I love you”, “I’m thinking of you.”

Sometimes we think that shaking things up in our relationship or changing our outdated routines takes too much effort and thought. In reality, a little act of kindness can make a big difference.
