Coral Bay is possibly one of the most beautiful resorts in Cyprus. In fact, most visitors would say it’s the best. Located close to the thriving resort town of Paphos, with its rich culture and history, Coral Bay is the ideal location for a Cyprus holiday. Just thirty minutes from Paphos airport and eight miles north of Paphos, it is perfectly situated for access to the rest of the island.

Coral Bay’s beaches are long and sandy, making them ideal for sunbathers and swimmers alike. The resort has a strong following, especially among families who return year after year to the beautiful self-catering hotels and apartments that line the main road. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, as well as some vibrant night spots if you want to party late into the night.

If it’s nature you’re after, then take a trip a few kilometers up the coast to Cape Lara, where there is a colony of nesting turtles. However, please be careful not to disturb the turtles during their breeding season, and respect the beautiful surroundings of Cyprus. You can also take a jeep safari up into the mountains, where several square miles have been designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The best thing about Coral Bay is that its excellent location makes it an ideal base from which to explore the rest of Cyprus. There are excellent excursions to the Troodas Mountains, where there will be no shortage of places to visit. From monasteries to tombs to ancient Roman amphitheatres, you’ll find it all in Cyprus. A few kilometers from Coral Bay are the quieter resorts of Polis and Latchi, with their quiet squares and traditional Cypriot shops. Both towns were nothing more than fishing piers not many years ago, but now they welcome tourists, and indeed many of the local businesses depend on the tourism industry for their survival.

You could even try diving with one of the excellent instructors who operate out of Maninii Island, just off the Akamas Peninsula a few kilometers further along the coast. There are excellent dives here in the warm Mediterranean ocean, which is exceptionally clear during the summer months. One of the highlights of diving in this area is a trip to the wreck of the Zenobia, which sank off the coast in 1980. It was sailing from Yugoslavia to Syria with 100 articulated trucks, among other things, and the ship is sunk only 20-40 meters of water, giving novice divers a rare opportunity to visit a wreck. In fact, the Zenobia is ranked number 25 of the best wreck dives in the world.

The best way to get around Cyprus is by car. Car hire in Cyprus is very reasonably priced and there are a wide variety of cars available for hire. Coral Bay Resort has offices for all the major rental companies and you can always haggle for a great deal. If you prefer a break from driving during your vacation, don’t worry as there are many organized tours available from the Coral Bay resort. With so much to see and do in Coral Bay, be sure to save some time to try the wide variety of water sports on offer. From jet skiing to parasailing, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. Then again, if you’re like me, you might just want to kick back with a nice cold beer and completely relax in the warm Cyprus sun.
