Beaches in Protaras, Cyprus

If it’s a beach holiday you’re after, then the beaches of Protaras, Cyprus are arguably among some of the best on the island. This should not come as a big surprise because that is the reason why the complex has developed at such a pace along with its excellent location. There are several beaches in Protaras, Cyprus, with many of the usual facilities that you would expect from one of the major resorts on the east coast. Whether you want to simply relax in the sun or take part in the many water sports on offer, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for here. There are even beaches within the beautiful Cape Greko Nature Reserve, or Cavo Greko as it is also known.

The municipal main boardwalk is large and flat, with a beautiful sandy bottom and shallow water line, making it perfect for families wanting a great day by the sea. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas so you don’t have to fight for a good spot either. The beach is long, stretching out towards Fig Tree Bay at one end, while the other end is at the start of a new walkway linking the resort to nearby Pernera, which is home to a pretty harbour, several waterfront restaurants and some beautiful sandy bays. Like most of the other beaches in Protaras, Cyprus there are several water sports vendors and if you fancy a bit of sailing you can even hire your own motor boat.

A short walk along the main promenade brings you to the area known as Fig Tree Bay, which is one of the most popular beaches in Protaras, Cyprus. Its main feature is a small island a short swim from the beach, which hosts various religious celebrations throughout the year. They usually involve young men swimming to touch a cross on the island and the competition can be quite fierce. Again, there is a great selection of water sports on offer, plus plenty of beachfront bars and restaurants for when you fancy a bite to eat or a nice cold beer. Many of the resorts’ more exclusive hotels also have the distinction of being beachfront and their facilities are generally open to any residents if you prefer lounging poolside rather than on the sand.

There are many other smaller bays and beaches in Protaras, Cyprus, such as Green Bay, which has a water sports station and also several trendy restaurants, cafes and bars. However, the jewel in the crown has to be the famous Konnos Bay, which is located within the Cape Greko Nature Reserve. Located in a sandy bay below the cliffs, it is probably one of the best sun traps on the island. The views on the way down are breathtaking and many celebrities have been known to anchor their luxury yachts in the bay during the hot summer months. As with other places there are great water sports facilities for the whole family provided by a really nice guy called Mike. The view from the beachfront restaurant is excellent and the waters are crystal clear turquoise blue, so it comes as no surprise that Konnos Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Protaras, Cyprus.
