Approval of your Fiancé Visa Petition by the CIS (INS)

25-01-2023

Once you have submitted your fiancé visa application, INS legally has 120 days to process your petition. If all your paperwork is complete, the approval process is relatively quick.

There are four INS service centers that process fiancé visa applications throughout the United States. The busiest service center is the Laguna Nigel, California office, due to all the immigrants coming to the West Coast from the Pacific Region and Mexico.

For this reason, fiancé visa applications through this office may take longer to process than through the other service centers.

Once you have filed your petition, you will be sent a Notice of Receipt from the INS indicating that they have received your application. Your petition is now considered in pending status until it is approved.

Approval Notice:

When your petition is approved, you will receive another Notice of Receipt, commonly called an Approval Notice.

On the Approval Notice there is a special number called ‘receipt notice number’.

This approval notice will also have an ‘A’ number. The A number is your fiancé’s actual visa number.

When contacting INS or the US embassy, you should always refer to your fiancée’s ‘advice of receipt number’ and ‘A’ number with respect to your application.

By the time you receive the approval notice, the US embassy will have received your fiancée’s visa approval notice and will schedule an interview with her.

The Embassy Information Pack:

The embassy will send your fiancée an information packet containing instructions and a list of documents to bring with you to the interview.

The documents you will need to bring are the originals of all the documents you submitted with the original application: certified copies of birth certificates, divorce certificates, as well as official translations.

She will also be required to bring employment documentation and an official copy of a police report on her from the local police department.

Good moral character:

One of the main requirements of his fiancée is that she must have good moral character. If you have a police record, you have virtually no chance of getting approved for a fiancée visa.

This requirement is well-intentioned. It’s designed to keep bad apples out of the United States. Forgive me for being cynical, but if she’s associated with the vors and zakone, she can probably pay enough to get a ‘clean’ police record.

Many of the Russian mobsters have managed to obtain documents that qualify them to immigrate to the United States; enough to recruit an entire organization in places like Brighton Beach, New York, and Los Angeles.

My personal belief is that the Russian mob is not filling their ranks in the United States through the fiancé visa process.

Your fiancé will have to undergo a medical exam at an approved medical exam center. The doctor will complete a Form I-693 Medical Examination Card, which your fiancé must bring to the interview.

This exam is usually arranged a day or two before the scheduled interview. At the time of the interview, they will complete a Form FD-258 Fingerprint Card with your fingerprints.
