Ireland’s cricket team is in the spotlight, first for their draw with Zimbabwe (this is the third time a Cricket World Cup tie has occurred) and second, because of their defeat of Pakistan, the result of the team qualifying for the Super 8. internship Australian batsman Mathew Hayden scored the fastest World Cup hundred from a total of 66 balls in the match between Australia and New Zealand. For the first time in the Cricket World Cup, Bangladesh reached the Super 8 stage, by defeating the Indian and Bermuda cricket teams.

Looking at each of the teams that make up the Super 8, we find that all of them are very promising, which means exciting matches.

o Australia: This team is the defending champion of the Cricket World Cup. They have suffered some setbacks with key players Andrew Symonds and Matthew Hayden facing injury issues and fast pitcher Brett Lee out of the game due to injuries. However, their resounding victory over opponents Scotland, the Netherlands and South Africa indicates they are unwilling to lose control of the cup win.

o Bangladesh: This is a team that took the Super 8 stage to everyone’s surprise. Their coach, Dav Whatmore (he was the one who led Sri Lanka to a resounding victory in 1996), has brought out the best in the team members. Much is expected of their matches in the tournament.

o England – Their strengths are their key players Kevin Pietersen (world number one batsman) and Flintoff (all-rounder).

o However, in the world cup, the team faced defeat against New Zealand and had to fight against Canada. Andrew Flintoff faced disciplinary action for late-night drinking. They have to show all their abilities to conquer the team in the Super 8.

o Ireland – They are showing great strength and have a lot coming their way, after Pakistan’s staggering defeat. His plus points include strong team players and excellent strategy from the Adrian Birrell coat.

o New Zealand: This team is expected to reach the semi-final stage with strong players, Daniel Vettori’s left arm spin and good batting.

o South Africa: They have simply won over the Group A teams and sent a clear message: they are clearly strong cup contenders. Good hitting is his strength; however, they still need a good spinner on their team.

o Sri Lanka – They were champions of the Cricket World Cup in 1996 and are putting up a strong fight in every match and winning. They have a skillful team with batsmen Kumar Sangakkara, captain Mahela Jayawardene, starters Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya, bowler Muttiah Muralitharan.

o West Indies – Their opening wins against Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Ireland have put them in a leading position. As hosts they are doing a lot to ensure the tournament goes well and they have a host of winning players like Chris Gayle, Lara, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo. In this form, it seems very likely that he will head to the semifinals.

The Super 8 stage of the World Cup will kick off on Tuesday night between Australia and the West Indies in Antigua and their results will decide the four teams that will play in the semi-finals.

However, for all the fun and excitement on the cricket ground, the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup is overshadowed by the death of Pakistani cricket team coach Bob Woolmer. He was found dead in his hotel room the day after the team lost to Ireland and this matter is being investigated.

At the end of the entire matchup, there will be only one winner! With the players on the Super 8 stage all set to fight to the bitter end, the global audience waits with bated breath to find the winner of the Cricket World Cup match.
