No matter who you are, you must visit New York City at least once in your life. New York is not only one of the largest cities in the world, it is also one of the most exciting and interesting cities you will ever visit. The scene of so much cultural history, New York City has something for everyone.

These are just a few of the things you can do when visiting New York. And by the way, one of the best ways to experience the city is by staying in a New York vacation rental.

New York apartment rentals are New York-owned homes that are rented to short-term visitors. Instead of staying in a boring hotel room, you can have your own short-term luxury New York apartment right in the middle of the action, where you can live like a New Yorker for a few days, a week, or more.

Once you are comfortably situated in your own New York apartment, get out and visit some of the world famous sites. Right at the top of the list has to be the Empire State Building. Well known to virtually everyone, this National Historic Landmark is over a quarter mile high and towers over the heart of Manhattan.

While you’re there, consider taking a New York Skyride. This 22-minute virtual tour rises from the top of the Empire State Building Observatory and takes you to see all the sites in the city.

Be sure to take a walk through Central Park too. This unique green space is located right in the heart of the city and features more than 840 acres of landscaped and recreational areas including a zoo, theater, sports facilities, lakes, food, entertainment, and much more.

While in Central Park, be sure to visit the Wildlife Center, where you can see more than 1,400 animals and 130 different species.

If you’re there between April and October, you can rent a boat and go rowing on Central Park Lake, or rent a gondola and have someone else do the work.

Sports fans will definitely want to check out Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, the historic old version if it arrives before it is demolished in 2009, or the new version currently under construction. The new Yankee Stadium is scheduled to open sometime in 2009.

Another must-see for sports fans is a “full access tour” to Madison Square Garden, home of the NBA Knicks, WNBA Liberty, and NHL Rangers. MSG is considered by many to be the most famous sports and entertainment arena in the world.

The list of tourist highlights in New York City is practically endless. You’ll almost certainly want to visit Times Square, Ground Zero, Wall Street, take a tour of the United Nations, and hop on the best free ride in town – the Staten Island Ferry.
