Small Engine Repair Socket Sets

When you first bought your home, you probably invested in a standard set of six-sided socket wrenches. The most common nut around the house is the six-sided (hex) nut that you find everywhere in your house. The products you bought and had to assemble also had the hex nut, so you’ve gotten a lot out of your dice game. After she’s been in your home for a few years, chances are she’s bought appliances with small motors. She may have a lawnmower, a gas powered brushcutter, a power tiller, a small gas powered chainsaw, maybe a snow blower. IF you’re like most people, you’d like to save some money by doing some maintenance and minor repairs on those small engines yourself. You have looked at your owner’s manual on the internet and received instructions on how to change the filters or adjust the carburetors and throttles. It really is something you can handle. You will need to follow the instructions and take notes on how to reassemble the small motor, but much of this can be done by yourself.

Now you’ve decided to start tackling that little engine repair. The socket set you have will come in handy along with the flat head and Phillips screwdrivers. But you’ll find that you need to get into some hard-to-reach areas, and you’ll also start to see nuts and bolts that you’re not at all familiar with. What are you doing now? Simple, go to your local hardware store and tell them what you’ve come across. Sketches are good to take with you when you go, and with your description of the funky nut or bolt head you’ve found, the hardware folks will be able to help you with just about anything you’ve found. They will take you to screwdrivers, wrenches, and socket wrench sets to help you find what you need. But you don’t need to buy complete sets of screwdrivers and manual screwdrivers. There are a number of socket and screw bits that you can use with the ratchet wrench on the socket set you already own.

These accessories for a game of dice are a great option and cheaper in the long run. You can get low-profile Phillips and flathead screwdriver bits, along with bits for screws you’re unfamiliar with. Same with any different type of lug nuts you come across, you will find sockets that will fit the ratchet in your socket set. You may also need different length extenders to reach those hard-to-reach areas. You will be amazed how they assemble that motor and you may need deep well bushings which are not standard on most bushing kits to get some nuts or bolts. Don’t forget to buy spark plug boots for your boot set. They usually come in sets of three, for changing spark plugs on cars and small engines, and should be all you need for any spark plug you come across.

You may want to buy the whole set of dice or the set of tips they recommend so you have a variety of sizes. But one or two sizes may be all you need, and you can simply add them to the dice set you already have. Small engines are usually pretty simple, so most people can work on them themselves rather than take them to a professional, and having it fixed yourself is a great feeling. Remember to wear eye protection and have a clean workbench, this will also make it a safer way to work.
